Journal entry on Friendships.

This is an autobiographical journal entry.

Life\’s been a little strange with me when it comes to friends. Quite puzzling always to a second person when I share my problem of not having much friends in my hometown to hang out – after living here for the major part of my life. The three years of Chennai and seven months of Mumbai have given me so many of them that I actually thought its okay to sit home.  But things changed.

As much as love sick I am called as, let me tell you, friendships are the most beautiful relationships you can have in your life with your contemporaries. Also, its the best to marry your friends rather than love someone and make them a friend as well. Friendships stay as long as an eternity only if – of course – if the bond works. Now these bonds can be really tricky in life. We hear so many different ideas of friendships coming together. It could be of likewise thinking, lifestyle or having similar likes and dislikes. But there is a bond beyond all of these – admiration, respect and non-dependency. These three aspects are the trademarks of most of my friendships.

When it come to group-ships, I\’ve always had a problem. One of the three aspects I mentioned usually disappears. The groups stay, but the bonds? Well, just for the sake of it. Therefore, I was never a fan of group-ships until last November. There is this trio, I am a part of and even in the WhatsApp groups where there are other people, we three talk the most. Its like a bell which rung one fine day in our heads, \”okay listen, you three make a good team.\” When we involuntarily decided to come out and create a space for ourselves, we were joined by a fourth person. It was quite tricky at first, at least to me. I didn\’t want the chemistry to be disturbed between the three of us and at the same time I wanted the bell to ring in that person\’s head too. It did. It worked wonders!

Now, this could be a journal entry I am jotting down in the heat of the moment but I know for sure, I will never have such a friendship gang in my life. Each four of us are from different backgrounds with different characters, strong personalities and entirely different professions. Even our likes and dislikes are quite dissimilar. But the three aspects I mentioned – admiration, respect and non-dependency – works so well that tomorrow, if we don\’t text each other for the entire day, we will nonchalantly pick it up from where we left off the next day. I dont know whether they can be called best friends but they can surely be called as soul friends.
