The rain \’Selfie\’.

Summer slowly climbs up the ladder in mid March and by the start of April. People get really excited on these days even when they get to see one dark cloud. That is how hot it gets! For the past two days, I really struggled to get some sleep even with minimum clothes on. But now, I mean RIGHT NOW, I am looking out of the window, smiling to myself, feeling the breeze and looking at the mighty water drops pouring down. Yes, it is raining!
The smell of rain is refreshing inside my nose. With earphones plugged in, I am listening to one of my all time favorite songs \”Walking in the moonlight\”. How more romantic can the situation get? I miss my love. But right now what comes to my mind is something from my college life. Memories travel back to my first year in college. It was one of the off days in college and we really didn\’t have to make it. I think we had to get some no due form done on the day and therefore along with my best friend, Swetha, I went to the college. It wasn\’t really raining but it wasn\’t the usual Chennai heat either. She carried an umbrella with her because you cannot trust Chennai when it is not hot. It can pour down harshly on you anytime. In college, we could find only Dan among our famous \’cultural shocking\’ group. The college wasn\’t crowded at all. After finishing off our works, we were about to leave the college and then with a HUGE sound, rain started! It was crazy. It was mental. It was unbelievable. The water drops could have pierced through our head and went all the way till toe. That is how hard and bad the rain was. We three looked at each other and wondered what to do. We just had one umbrella in our hands. Waiting for sometime for rain to settle down was one option but it didn\’t just work because rain was only getting stronger with every passing second. The crazy girl with us was ready for an adventure; to walk through the flooded roads in front of the college, reach the main road and catch an auto. Dan and I looked at each other and agreed. That was one hell of a walk. The water were gushing down on the road and it was badly flooded. Three of us, squeezed under one umbrella with Swetha as the jam, invited the \’moral police\’ stare from everyone around. As we were walking, someone among us told the option to take a picture. At a time when the word \’selfie\’ wasn\’t invented we took one! Under the umbrella, Swetha was sporting a Thattathin Marayathu look with her oval face secured in her shawl, Dan, with thick framed specs and his shining baldness and myself all clean shaved looking perfectly like an alien, we were laughing our hearts out walking.
Years later, on another rainy day I happened to remember this out of many rain incidents in my life. I think life will be like this from now on. The first memory of anything and everything will be of your college life. People debate whether school life or college life is better. As far as I am concerned, my school life was nostalgic because of the wide campus and teachers but I didn\’t have a single good friend through out my 14 years. When it comes to college life, it was memorable and lovely for the awesome group of friends I made and what they have taught me. College life made me a better person. College life made me who I am now. Harsh lessons were learned but surprisingly when I talk to one of my friends who is in 2nd year right now, I can relate my life. I often advice to enjoy every bit of college life for that it never comes back and years down the lane, it will be the best years of one\’s life. Meanwhile, the rain is getting heavier..
