Just a little bit of inspiration.

Ever since Sachin Tendulker told in his interview after his 100th century – I guess, I am not wrong – this sentence has been on the rounds forever; \”Dreams, they do come true\”. But even before that, I am pretty much sure many people have believed in this sentence and might have even told it. It mattered only when it came out of a legend\’s life because people consider this as the success formula of Sachin. During the first days of my college life, when I was slowly turning out to be a hardcore film maniac, one of the professor\’s asked everyone in class to write about the person who inspired you the most. Obviously anyone who knows me well at this point would think I would have wrote an essay on Mohanlal. But I was surprised with myself when I wrote down a new name; a not-so-popular name back then. Today, it is one of the trending names in Kerala. Alphonse Putharen. The reason why I wrote his name is not just cause I loved \’Nenjod Cherthu\’ or \’Neram\’, it was purely because of how simple this man was and I was an ardent follower of his posts. The way he interacts with the people who comments on his posts proved how down-to-earth he is. It was one of his posts which inspired me more than what Sachin told. \”Nammal nischayikunna dhoorame ollu nammude swapnathilek\”. I am not sure this was the exact sentence but it surely was something similar to it. [English translation : We fix the distance to our dreams]

Now when I see the overwhelming response to his incredible film \’Premam\’, I am getting reminded of this status and the comments which fell on it. I was one of the first likers of the post and I think I also shared it. He has also posted a status which spoke about isn\’t it time to consider Film as a subject in school. This alone shows his unflinching commitment towards cinema and the silver screen. What more for an inspiration? \’Premam\’ will stand as a historic movie in Malayalam for sure. Its surely going to inspire a hell lot of aspiring young film makers like me but probably we will see a flurry of short films having numerous meaningless references to it. But more the credit you give to this film and Nivin, the more credit you owe to Alphonse Putharen and Anwar Rasheed.

Anyway, this is not a review post on the film. But what I wanted to tell is about achieving your dreams. Somewhere between your dream and your present situation stands your commitment, hard work and dedication. You got to love your dream to achieve it and work hard for it. You should have the mind set to work to any extent. In the film \’Ivide\’, the character Krish Hebbar – again Nivin Pauly – tells one of his lazy employees about how much a person should work hard to attain stability in life. Nothing else is going to help you to reach that dream.

People often say to reach the top level in films, you need to have contacts and recommendations. Its good to have contacts but I don\’t agree with recommendations. I didn\’t know anyone when I approached Dinesh chettan to act in my \’Two Zero One Four\’. We went directly, told him the story and got the nod for it. After the release of the short film, in the interview with Club FM, Dinesh chettan said these golden sentences \”Many people have approached me with short films but I haven\’t been positive. I was so impressed with the attitude and passion of Fahim and Vishnu when they told the story. So I nodded.\” This made us feel so good about ourselves. It was always a dream for me make some popular cine artist stand in front of my frame and call action and it happened without any recommendation. Its not a self boasting but I am just trying to say, along with this passion for your dream, also have faith and confidence in your talent. Trust me, nothing is going to stop you then.

Let me make it simple. Success comes with staying honest to your dream, the willingness and commitment to work and having faith in your talent and most importantly, self confidence.
